  • How does Ms. Blakemore define adolescence? How long does it last? its the period of life where its starts biological and physical changes of puberty and ends at a age of stable independent role in society.
  • What is the significance of the prefrontal cortex? Which section is this on the diagram we viewed yesterday? (See post for 12/2/13)  it stops you from doing things and planning what would you do on a day. Also stoping inappropriate behavior.
  • What is synaptic pruning and what is the significance of the process? its connected with prefrontal cortex the elimination of unwanted synaptic.

  • Explain the design and results of the experiment in which adolescents were compared to adults in seeing things from another person's perspective. Adolescents have a difficult way in seeing  another persons perspective rather then adults.
  • Describe the difference between the limbic system and the prefrontal cortex in teenagers and adults. Adolescents take more risk and are still developing where in adults there are developed
  • Do you see your own adolescence as a problem or an opportunity? Explain. In my opinion  i could say opportunity because since we take some many risk there will be one or more at least that we learn from.
  • Make one suggestion you have for educators based on this Ted Talk.

                                The Physical Genius

  1. Beyond having physical ability, what sort of personality is needed to be really good at surgery, according to neurosurgeon Don Quest? Don Quest personality was a practical minded obsession with the possibility and the consequence of failure. He wanted to be close to perfection.
  2. How might this type of personality apply to academic endeavors such as taking Regents exams or writing research papers? This personality applies to academic ways because you push your self to improve in areas your not that good at.
  3. What is the scientific explanation for practice making perfect? Hint: Explain chunking. The more you work on a task your not good at the more you learn about it you become great at it.
  4. Explain the importance of imagination in being a physical genius. You understand things better and find solutions to you problems better in he article it says " Jordan his genius originates principally in his imagination. If he spent less time dreaming and more time playing he would  be Karl Malone.
  5. What, according to Gladwell, ultimately separates the genius from the “merely very good.” Explain. Genius are always learning more but they don't believe in perfection. You make mistakes but you always learn from them and make it better.

                                "The Physical Genius".

Charlie Wilson developed was not a genius as soon as he was born because what i think is that you develop your skills as you go on. You learn from other people that know more then you and that's how you learn knew things.

Are you a risk taker ? Compare & Contrast

In this article it explains about teenagers taking risks  this article from Science News for Kids.

There was one time i took a risk of not going in one day in to work thinking everything will be fine since i was cool with one of the managers. I wrote him in a text and said i wasn't coming in. Until i found out i got suspend for a whole week since i didn't show up. Personally at that moment i didn't care and took the risk of getting suspended. The consequence was not going to work for a whole inter week what i learned out of the consequence i got was calling the store and telling them my self personally i was not going to be able to make it in. instead of calling my "cool" manager of mines. But there has been times as well that i have took a risk and there was no consequence at all. There was a time i took one of my sisters personal item and she was looking for it historically and she never found out i took it. Even tho my sister didn't find out it was me i should have told her i did it or not even take her things in the first place. I could say i am a risk taker.Theres times i know the consequences to what i do but i still do them.

Hi my name is Susan Juma i live in New york. Well im a very cool person i like to meet new people and try new things. I'm a teenage girl currently still in high school. Trying to get into college and moving out the Bronx. In this course what i would like to explore is why the girls brain matures more quickly then boys. I would like to explore and learn more about brain science so i could learn new things and find things that i dont know about. How much blood does the brain carry ?
What is the relationship between our brains and our minds?

i want to learn about this question because i am kind of confuse between the mind and the brain. Me knowing that mind is your conscious and the brain tells you what you have to do. The mind at times plays with your head and try's to confuse you.
